I am totally fascinated by the process of lampworking and the beauty of the finished glass and jewelry.
Lampworking is the process of making glass beads by hand. Finger-thick rods of glass are heated over a torch fueled by propane and oxygen. The molten, red glowing glass is twined around a steel mandrel. Complex forms and patterns can be made by the use of different colored glass - and a very steady hand!
Finished glass beads are annealed in a glass kiln in order to make sure that there is no unwanted stress within the glass that may cause cracking.
